Motivational Monday #53

This week’s Motivational Monday video features the story of Jorge Munoz – who seems just like a regular guy upon first impression… However, Jorge is one of the most inspiring people you’ll ever meet.  A school bus driver by day and an angel by night.

Every night for the past several years, he has gone home and cooked food for hundreds of people on his old stove.  He then goes to a street corner in Queens, New York and feeds those that are hungry.  He does this with his own money because “it’s the right thing to do”.

How has Jorge’s story inspired you? Be sure to share your answer in the comments section below!

Motivational Monday #52

Video from KarmaTube

In 1992, British athlete Derek Redmond became one of most celebrated figures in Olympic history — despite never having won an event. It was the 400m semi-final of the Barcelona Olympics and Redmond, who was one of the sprinters tipped to win, tore a hamstring only minutes from the finish line. As emergency staff rushed to his aid, a weeping Redmond hobbled to his feet and began limping to the finish line — he knew he had to finish. His father ran out from the audience and held him until he made to the end, while an audience of millions stood up and gave him a standing ovation.

The video — a testament to the triumph of the human spirit — has since become immortalized in Nike and Visa commercials. How has this week’s Motivational Monday inspired you?

Motivational Monday #48

This week’s Motivational Monday video features the incredible story of Brenden Foster. Brenden was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the tender age of 8 years old.

The boy who once rushed through homework so he could play outside found himself confined to a bed. But there was no confining his spirit.

“I had a great time. And until my time comes, I’m going to keep having a great time,” he said.

Brenden’s selfless dying wish was to help the homeless. Brenden was too ill to feed them on his own. So volunteers from Emerald City Lights Bike Ride passed out some 200 sandwiches to the homeless in Seattle.

Then Brenden’s last wish took on a life of its own.

A TV station in Los Angeles held a food drive. School kids in Ohio collected cans. People in Pensacola, Florida gathered goods.

And here in Western Washington, KOMO viewers from all over took part in the Stuff the Truck food drive in Brenden’s honor. Hundreds with generous hearts donated six and a half huge truck loads of groceries and more than $60,000 in cash to benefit Northwest Harvest and Food Lifeline.

Brenden touched hearts all over the world. His wish came true, and he lived to see it.

When asked what made him sad, Brenden said, “When someone gives up.”

Brenden Foster never gave up. Even as he clung to his last hours of life, Brenden kept giving.

Brenden’s endless desire to give and his ability to live each day to the fullest are incredibly motivating to me. How has Brenden’s story motivated you?

Motivational Monday #47

I came across this video featuring scenes from one of my favorite movies, Coach Carter, over the weekend & I immediately knew that I had to share it in today’s Motivational Monday post. This video will challenge you to get to the root of your deepest fear so that you can overcome it to become what you are meant to be – which is powerful beyond measure.

This week, I challenge you to live a completely fearless life. If for any reason you start feeling fearful, remember the words from this short poem by Marianne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear
is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our
darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to
be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your
playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing
enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel
insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to
make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just
in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light
shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to
do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our
presence automatically liberates others.”

How would your life change if you allowed yourself to let go of fear entirely? Share your answer in the comments section below.

Motivational Monday #45

This week’s Motivational Monday video features the phenomenal story & voice of Sung-bong Choi. At the beginning of his audition on Korea’s Got Talent, Sung-bong introduced himself as a “manual worker” and shared that he has been living on his own since he was five years old.

For ten years, he lived on the streets alone and sold gum and energy drinks to survive. At one point, he describes how he had to sleep in public on stairs or in restrooms to find shelter.

He graduated elementary and middle school through qualification exams so that he could study at the Daejeon Arts High School. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to continue his formal musical training due to his financial situation.

He prefaced his performance by telling the judges “Rather than saying ‘I sing because I enjoy it,’ I like singing because it was the first thing I liked after living that dayfly-like life. I’m not a good singer, but I just like it.”

Sung-bong Choi’s story is incredibly inspiring to me because of everything he has overcome to make his dream of doing what he loves most a reality.

What have you gained from hearing Sung-bong Choi’s story? Let me know your answer in the comments section below…
