The Unemployed Millionaire Show – Episode #3

December 01, 2009  |   Author:  Matt Morris

In this episode of The Unemployed Millionaire Show, I share one of the most important techniques I’ve used to create success for myself and how you can implement this same principle in your life if you’re serious about becoming an Unemployed Millionaire…

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Viddler video.

If you’ve read The Unemployed Millionaire, then you know that success is equal to your level of skill multiplied by your level of effort:

SUCCESS = Your Skill x Your Effort

Constant personal development is probably the number one reason I am where I am today. When I first got started as an entrepreneur, my skill level was low even though I was putting in massive amounts of effort. By becoming an expert in multiple subjects (leadership, business, marketing, sales,  and internet marketing to name a few), I developed the skills I needed to achieve success and live the lifestyle of my dreams.

I am able to maintain this lifestyle because I haven’t stopped developing my level of skill. As you saw in Episode 3 of The Unemployed Millionaire Show, I’m relentless when it comes to learning and I highly recommend continuous personal development no matter what level of success you’ve achieved.

What subjects have you become an expert in? I would love to hear about it in the comments section below!

P.S. If you missed the last episode of The Unemployed Millionaire Show where I share my secrets for getting FREE upgrades when I travel, take a look here: Episode #2.

    Matt,

Just finished the book and it was a great motivation to me. It was a simple read that was packed with useful information.I am not a savvy computer user but have looking into several of the ideas you throw out and I have no doubt that I can implement them and see great rewards. I have been a banker for the past 15 years of my life. In February of this year I lost my job as a City President of a regional bank because I was doing network marketing. I love World Ventures and the opportunity that it offers. For the first time in my life I am a 1099 employee doing roofing sales and your book helped put into perspective that I don't need that steady pay check. I am taking control of my life and the future of my wonderful family and looking forward to continuing on with my success that I have had since losing that job(which I have honestly not missed one bit). My great weakness is staying focused and not getting down when things aren't perfect so I have committed to reading your book over every month for the next year. Thanks again for sharing your passion and knowledge. May God continue to bless you and your family.
  • Thanks for that video. You are a gift to mankind. I hope you will find time to visit Nigeria in one of your trips.

thanks for the reminder for the 5-10 books on one specific subject.

For traditional subject such as finance,I wonder, will it be better to balance between the most classic theory and the most trendy books?

Your video is like fresh air. Thanks again matt and waiting for your next video
  • Thanks for that video.Y are a gift to mankind. I hope you will find time to visit Nigeria in one of your trips.
  • Hey Matt,

Thanks for the 5 book reminder, it's so true!

Regarding social media - it's really such a quagmire right now, with all and sundry claiming to be "Social media experts/consultants/gurus" - you name it, somebody's got the title.

How have you selected the 5 - 10 books/courses/e-books that you're focusing on for social media? Who have you chosen as your expert teachers and why?

    See you Saturday!
    Clare
  • Hey Clare,

Here are the books I've read so far:
Twitter Power by Joel Comm because I know him personally and know he's a huge stud.
Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuck because his site gets MASSIVE traffic and I love his personality and style.
Coup DeTwitter because I know Harris Fellman and what a genius he is and that he is always super creative.
ProBlogger by Darren Howse because his blog sites get MASSIVE traffic. I also read one of his ebooks.
Now that I'm through these I have a few more at home but can't remember the authors. I essentially try to find the leaders who I KNOW are doing really well with it. Because of my background in internet marketing I know how to tell if they're really doing well or if they are full of sh*#. I should probably do a post on how to tell if a "self proclaimed guru" is full of it. :)
I'm going to start reviewing these books for future UM shows soon.
    Looking forward to seeing you!
  • Thanks Matt!

I for one would welcome a post on "How to tell if your social media guru is faking it" :-)
  • Thank you, you are the best
    Mario
  • Hi Mario,

Thank you. Your hotel looks magnificent!
  • Matt, show to me what you can do.
    Best Regards

  • I may not be at the expert level yet but I am stilllearning(always).
I have been working in financial services for over twenty years. I was always dissatisfied by the returns offered by banks, insurance companies ad funds available to the smaller investor and the hedge funds were for the "Big boys". I was so impressed when the forex market became available to "the rest of us".
I have been working to develop a reliable system to operate in this market and have tested many systems. I have a degree in mathematics and was fascinated by the potential to use mathematical principles to analyse the market. Many systems we tried did not work so I set about developing my own and have been working on this for nearly five years. It is a technical analysis system based on over a dozen different indicators to note a trend then "scalp" the market with lots of small trades (which is also less risky). we operate with a maximum drawdown of 5% (but we have had up to 18% in the past before we changed this). This is not an EA (Expert advisor),it merely gives us signals, all our trading is done manually with experienced, real life, human traders.

The system we are currently using has been tested on real account over the last 3 years. It has gone through flat markets and very volatile ones. We had a high level of return after the first year but I decided to reduce the risk factor. We have been tweaking the system to produce better results but still maintain the low risk factor. Part of this is achieved by "hedging" and trading different currency pairs at he same time. This also gives us more trades and more profit with the same risk level. We are actually winning over 95% of our trades over the 36 month period, so this is not " a bit of luck".
I have also had to study marketing, especially online to promote my business and have become an expert in that field too(I also did an MBA specialising in marketing).

We now have many customers worldwide, and agents in The UK, The US, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Belgium, India, Canada and Colombia.
When you start your own business you have to be experts in many field as there is a lot of competition. I shall definately read your book.
My advice: Never stop studying for your business.
  • Thank's for sharing your knowledge, Matt! I'm one of your "friends" on Facebook and it's always fun to check out what you're up to.

My field of expertise is single people - how to find a girl- or boyfriend. And of course keep her/him! :-)
  • Good work, near the end of your book and your approach helped re-motivate me after a sporting accident left me unable to work for the last 16months. Keep it up, jelous at month as weather in UK is rough and I love CapeTown!
  • Hey Adam, Thanks for sharing your story. Yeah, this place is beautiful. Hiked up Table Mountain today - what a breathtaking view!
  • Barbara Burton
Thanks, Matt, for your inspiring book. In pondering whether or not I am an expert in anything, I came to the realization that I am somewhat of an expert in proofreading. It amazes me at the abundance of typos that I encounter in almost everything I read. I challenge everyone to be the best they can be, in order to raise the quality as well as the quantity of good reading material to teach us about becoming successful in business. Thanks, Matt, for mentoring us.
  • Hey Barbara,
After reading my blog and my emails you must have found a few from me as well! I found one in my book just the other day that the editors didn't catch. All the best,

    Matt
  • I am definitely agree that we should be experts in our field. I will take your advice. I am a beauty consultant and health coach and I am working on being an expert in these areas.

    Thanks for the advice
  • Thank matt..

You surly become what you focus on...

Its the key to Directing the other then conscious/subconscious mind.

Will power and Action a are the ignition
  • I couldn't agree more!
  • Well Said,
    both Matt and Lloyd.
I am so thankful for having followed this, learning much about a subject... in my case , recently succeeding in knowledge of subconscious mind, importance of being focused on being happy and being focused on the future you want to create.
I also follow your lead in becoming an expert in a new field on an ingioing basis... It keeps your mind, your brain young and growng stronger as we age..

Looking forward to enjoying and learning from the audio and book.
  • Hey Matt

I just want to congratulate you on your book. Really good. Your book stands out. No wonder it is a bestseller. I like the way you put it all together. I can hear the passion of your voice in the writings.

On becoming an expert: I so agree with you. Success is really skill x effort.

I have been reading hundreds of books, listening to and watching countless audios and videos on personal growth and even though I am an Ophthalmologist, I have become quite an expert on the topic.

A few years ago I decided to look into Internet marketing and to my surprise people now come to me for advice on the subject.

You are so right on becoming an expert.

Thanks for making the world a better place with your inspiring book

    Ken
  • Hi Dr. Onu,

Thanks so much. I took a look at you blog and love it!
  • Ejaz
    Hi Matt

Excellent video.I have chosen to become an expert in internet & social media marketing and Im already devouring over 3 different courses and a few books on the subject and like you said my knowledge level has shot through the roof.I am already implementing what I am learning and very excited about the future.

Whats fantastic about it is I am putting a course together to educate others on this very same subject and I am almost about to launch my first training session!!

Anyone who wan to achieve success in their lives I highly recommend two things read Matt's book The Unemployed Millionaire and listen to 7 Strategies for Seven Figures over and over again!!!!

To everyone out there I am becoming an expert in something the question is what are you becoming an expert in??
  • Ejaz, you are awesome my friend! Congratulations on breaking through the biggest challenge for many which is TAKING ACTION to implement what you're learning. I hope to see you in Johannesburg on Saturday!
  • Well, don't laugh. I went to Google Adwords and did a review of my site. It spit out 6 pages of keywords. Impossible to promote. I haven't become an expert yet, but am working on learning about how my site works so I can promote fewer products for better conversion, or learn how to write an article or a blog for this website. I'm a little lost right now. Am still getting direction and advice from the support staff for the site. Maybe in a month or two I will be closer to becoming an "expert." What I am really an expert in right now, in life, is surviving. Does that count?
  • LOL - Being an expert in surviving does help you to KEEP surviving. But I get the sense that you're looking for a lot more. Looking forward to hearing about your success so keep in contact!
  • I've become an expert in marketing, I'm learning more about the online marketing. One of the best ways that I've found accelerate my learning, is by doing what other successful people do. My mentors tend to recommend increasing your efficiency.

One way to do that is by reading book summaries before deciding to read the whole book. I've got 17 FREE business and success book summaries (of some of the best books, on the market) just off of my blog on the video section at www.YourSuccess.ca.
  • Hey Lane,

Your blog looks great. I may have to have you be a guest author on our blog here sometimes soon. Let me know if you have any new topics that you think would be appropriate.

Love the book summaries - you are spot on!
  • Hi Matt,

Sorry I didn't see your reply. I'm really honored that you had a look at my website and I'd be delighted to contribute to your blog in any way possible.
  • Hello,
don't know if I am expert yet but I am learning a lot about health and nutrition. Specifically the right foods not to eat and the ones with the most nutrition. Thanks for being an inspiration. :)
    Todd
  • Perhaps one of the most important skills of all to master. Thanks for your comment!
  • Great article Matt.

BTW your book is awesome too.
