Following November’s Top 50 Most Popular Network Marketing Companies, I gave a brief overview of  network marketing in general. This month, I wanted to focus on sharing the typical structure of network marketing companies and give a quick background of the MLM industry.

The structure of network marketing companies allows manufacturers/product developers to release products on the market successfully without spending millions upon millions of dollars.

The success of every network marketing company is dependent upon the referral-based distribution system and the drive within members to share their business with friends, family, business associates, and acquaintances. Today, the majority of network marketing companies handle the intricate business details so their representatives can focus all efforts into sharing products and services.

In the 1950s and 60s, network marketing was more commonly known as direct sales. Direct sales companies became quite trendy but were not commonly known until the 1970s when people began to understand what the industry was all about and saw the benefits of network marketing (MLM).

Companies like Mary Kay, Usana, Herbalife and Amway went global in the 1980s and paved the way for streamlined manufacturing and distribution in the 1990s and 2000s. Streamlining these processes allowed companies to reduce operating costs and create financial freedom for more of their independent representatives.

I’d love to read what you think about December’s Top 50 Network Marketing Companies and my overview of the industry so let me know in the comments section below!

Is there a great MLM company missing from our list? Let me know so I can keep an eye on them for January! Along with an updated list of the top direct sales companies, I will cover the criterion you need to consider when evaluating a network marketing opportunity.

P.S. If you missed last month’s list, check it out right here: 50 Top Network Marketing Companies – November 2009.

P.P.S. I appreciate everyone who let me know about network marketing companies that were left out of last month’s list!

I don't see UFIRst on your list? Any reason for that? gb

Affiliate Marketing is a performance based sales technique used by companies to expand their reach into the internet at low costs. This commission based program allows affiliate marketers to place ads on their websites or other advertising efforts such as email distribution in exchange for payment of a small commission when a sale results.

  • Hi Matt,
Thank you for providing the first top popular work at home business companies.
Global Resorts Network is one of the oldest company in the travel industry but it is not appearing on your list, could do some research and see why they have dropped!
    Here is the site: http://www.globalresortsnetwork.com/lotn7

    Have a blessed day!
  • Matt and Amanda,

Please give strong consideration to creating a separate list for newer companies. Some of these companies are generating enough traffice to make the current Top 50 list. One site I'd offer is www.automaticgeek.com

    Have an awesome day!
  • Zorro George
    Hi Matt,

Any news on the FM Group (FM Cosmetics) would be very grateful to know their achievement. Thanks

    Zorro
  • I haven't heard of FM Cosmetics. Here's a website I found:
    http://uk2.fmgroup.dega.com.pl
They have an Alexa rank of 45,008 - impressive. Does anyone know if that's the main corporate website?

Amanda, please do some research and put them on the list if their corp site is in the top 50.

    Thanks Zorro!!

    Matt
  • Hi Matt and Zorro,

FM Cosmetics was started in September 2004 in Poland. I've added them to the list at #20.

Zorro, thanks again for letting us know about FM Cosmetics. Hope you're having a great New Year so far!

    Sincerely,

    Amanda
  • Hi Linda, their Alexa ranking is just over 200,000 so almost on the list but not quite.
    Thanks!

  • Hello, this is my first time i visit here. I found so a lot of appealing in your article particularly on how to determine the topic. Keep up the great work.
  • Hi Matt,

I also researched MLM companies myself for 19 years, including many of those on your list. I even joined several of them to research them from the rep's perspective. I finally found the one that I believe to be the best in the industry, and it has been my and my husband's full time career ever since.

I am really surprised that it's not on your list. (Millionaire Blueprint Magazine did a 12-page cover story on it in Jan, 2007, and declared it to be the best in the industry - and said that nothing else even comes close. I agree, for many reasons.)

Please check it out here: http://www.500KPerYear.com.

I love your articles and videos. Keep up the great work, and thanks for all you do!

  • Hi Matt,

I' can't believe Global Domains International (GDI) isn't on your list. In fact, I can't believe it's not in the top 5! Genuine Shock, not a sly promotion (lol)

Happy new year Matt, Family & team.
Thank you so much for you list and promotion for MLM. People are still judgemental about MLM. I think it is a great way of starting you own business. I did not see ONEgroup on you list. They are located in Quinsland Australia.

Great list! Another list could be the top 500 money earners in many of the NWM firms you have listed above.

Global Verge began in June 2008 with a lot of excitement, low cost entry, 3x9 matrix for the "little" guy to make bucks.

    Love to know your thoughts...
  • Great idea Don!
  • Matt, I love your list. I have to let you know that one company is on its way to make the top 10 in 2010. The comapny name is Evolv Health. Its going to break all the records. You can check it out at www.coachunow.myevolv.com
    Have a fantastic New Years
  • Rich Krannich
How are attributes such as annual revenue, average distributor income, sales growth figures figured into the equation for a company to make the top 50 list? It seems like a company needs to be at least 3 years old and have good web traffic to make the list and that's it. Please help me learn more.
  • Hey Rich, this is just the top companies based on their website popularity according to http://www.alexa.com
  • I was surprised that World Ventures was not on your list. They have been in business for 4 years and although young, they have experienced tremendous growth and have an outstanding reimbursement structure. Check them out at www.worldventures.com
  • Kathy, World Ventures IS on there - it's number 16! Yay! ;o)
  • Oh I didn't read through all the comments, so sorry. The company I mentioned before is very new also so that is probably why they were left out. I would still appreciate any thoughts on the company that you may have though. Thanks!
  • Hi Matt,
Great info.Have a great training in N.J. and a very Happy New Year to you and your family.
  • Moe
Even though I do not see sportron on the list, It is a 17 year old company with great leadership and product based in Texas
  • I've met the founder of Sportron before at an industry event. Great guy and yes, an excellent company!
  • Hi Matt,

I loved the list you gathered together for the 50 Top Network Marketing Companies: December 2009. I was wondering if GDI was overlooked or left off for a reason. I looked up http://website.ws and the rank was 5,565. Thanks for all your hard work.

Make it a great 2010! Happy New Year!

    Sue
  • When I click on the link, it talks about an affiliate program, but not nwm.
    Thanks!
  • This company is new to NWM but is not a new company. Not many know abou tit yet since there are only 2400 distributors in all of North America. It is probablythe best kept secret out there.
    I love the updates.
  • Great list Matt however you will be adding a new company to that list very soon. The company is FMCosmetics.com this company brought me out of retirement! Established over 5 years ago did over £50 Milllion in sales last year. Predicted to do £80 Million in 2010. Already in 50 countries worldwide. Free to join.
  • Norbert
    Hi Matt,
    NHT Global has been left.
    Its website is here:
    www.nhtglobal.com
Here is information from Alexa.com http://www.alexa.com/search?q=www.nhtglobal.com&r=home_home&p=top
  • Hi Norbert, their Alexa ranking is over 1,000,000 so not close to being on the list.
  • Thembi Constance Myeni
    Hi Matt.

I read almost all your emails and get inspired by the wonderful work you do, empowering ordinary people like us. I have ordered the Unemployed Millionnaire but stil have not received , since September. I also wrote to you about my approach into network marketing especially in the African context. I realised you were travelling in South Africa and tried to get to see you, unfortunately we could not.

I would be greatful to here from you and get my book.

    Thank you
  • Hi Thembi, you'll need to contact whoever you bought the book from... Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.

I'll be sure to post my next travels to Africa so maybe we can meet
  • Check out Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing founded by Paul Oberson in 2001.
  • JAEL WASWA
Thanks Morris for this insight on MLM
  • Matt,

I Learning Global has been left off. You can check them at www.ilearningglobal.tv . I have them ranked at 36,341 .
  • Hi Chuck,

Thank you for mentioning iLearningGlobal. The company was started in March of 2008 which is why it's not included in this list of top network marketing companies.

We'll definitely keep iLearningGlobal in mind if we create a list of up and coming network marketing companies that have been in business for less than two years!

    Kind Regards,

    Amanda Troxell
    Personal Assistant to Matt Morris
  • Amanda,

Yes, I re-read the criteria and see that you have only included companies in business for 3 years or more. I can appreciate that for sure. I have been involved in start-ups before and many don't last. Thanks for the update.
  • Thanks Matt for putting this list together.

Sometimes we in NWM can take the industry for granted, just because maybe we have not quite made our first million.

I always get amazed, or maybe not anymore, when I visit some of the forums around the net, and see the post from people knocking MLM discounting it as a scam or scheme.

No it is not a scheme but you do have to put in the effort, and that is where many drop the ball.

Take Amyway, my very first taste of MLM was via an Amway meeting. How long have they have been around? Can you say before B.C., LOL!

It is one great industry we have here, and if only mr. and mrs. average Joe could see it for what it is worth, it could change thousands of lives. Financially and mentally.

    Be blessed Friend

    Willie
  • I know that these top 50 were just based on Alexa ratings, but it still makes me happy to see the company I'm associated with on the list (and even above our major competitor in our specific niche industry!)

By the way...love your book Matt. I'm on my second read.
  • Thank you very much for that magnificent article russian mp3 sites
  • Annah
check this companies for me AIM, TIENS, TRAVELACCESSCLUB
  • I didn't see my product on the list. Could you check it out for me? Due to company policies I can not advertise the product here. However if you will go to my website it will take you to the product. I am also glad to see USANA on your list. Thank you.
