Motivational Monday #12

Today is a celebration of the life of Civil Rights leader and American hero, Martin Luther King, Jr.

His ability to lead and his courage to take action on his dreams are extremely motivating to me. In honor of Martin Luther King, I wanted to share the ‘I have a dream’ speech in full for today’s Motivational Monday…

One of the things I admire most about Martin Luther King is the fact that he acknowledged that his leadership abilities and dream were powerful enough to make this world a better place.

He made the decision to dedicate his life to achieving true equality in the United States – which is a decision that changed the world forever.

Every one of us can make the decision to dedicate our life to achieving our dreams and improving the world around us but it requires a huge leap of faith. If you’re deciding whether or not you should take that leap of faith then ask yourself this: How do you want to be remembered?

I’d love to hear your answer in the comments section.

P.S. If you missed last week’s Motivational Monday, watch it here: Motivational Monday #11.

    Hey Matt,
I strongly agree that Martin L King jr leadership abilities and dream were powerful enough to make this world a better place. The most remarkable thing about the dream is that he knew this would not be achieved in his life time. However, he had faith in his followers that they will continue on with the fight for freedom by showing everybody (black/white) that we can exceed our expectation purely on believe and taking massive action.
“Happy Martin Luther King DAY” Charge forward with no fear.

Dr. king was a man who believed in his purpose/dream. A dream that all peoples, black, white and otherwise, would have the right to be able to pursue life and liberty here in America.

What was even more powerful about Dr.King was the fact he was able to get others to grab a hold of his dream also.

His I have a dream speech still sends chills through my body. Dr. King was a blessing to mankind.

My personal dream is to own my life by achieving both time and financial freedom, and to also help others do the same.

We are so fortunate here in America to be able to pursue our dreams.

THE THING I MOST ADMIRE ABOUT MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS THAT HE WASN’T AFRAID TO BE BOLD AND DIFFERENT. IN THIS WORLD TODAY YOU HAVE TO STAND OUT FROM THE REST TO BE THE BEST EVEN IF IT TAKES A WHILE. I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED AS A PERSON WHO DID HIS BEST TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE HELP OTHER PEOPLE. THE CHANGE COMES FROM WITHIN AND I WANT TO BRING THAT CHANGE OUT IN PEOPLE

    Matt,
Thank you for a great post on Dr. King. One of the things I admired most about Dr. King was that he “Walked With Kings and Never Lost The Common Touch”. When I met his in 1966 he was open and easy to talk with. He showed compassion for all and never had to be the center of attraction even though he was.

His committment and love for all mankind changed the world and I am grateful to God for him.

    Matt,
I was fortunate to be raised by parents who believed in contributing to others to make a better world. My goal for financial freedom includes being able to continue that legacy by contributing to those groups and individuals who can impact the lives of those around them.

When I think of the spontaneous generosity of the people attending Acceleration this last weekend to the needs of the people of Haiti, I’m so proud to be part of such a caring organization.

I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

Thank GOD for all who invest in helping others. Am glad to have donated yesterday to the Haitians who are the most needy today.
Action is the driving force to dreams to be reality, thats why i am still struggling to attain financial success thru the internet and teach others, how to do it and succeed as well. Martin Luther king’s speech brings tears from my eyes always-I feel priviledged to see and hear him speak-am now more priviledged to see his dream coming thru with an Africa American president voted by all.

    Hey Matt,

Thinking about how we want to be remembered really is a very powerful tool isn’t it?

I’m currently reading The Unemployed Millionaire (excellent so far!), and I’m pretty sure that you just mentioned the legacy thing in there. Either there, or on your 7 steps audio. I really hadn’t thought about it too much until you mentioned it, thanks!

You really have started me thinking about long, long term goals and just how I want to be remembered. The answer is pretty easy really, as I’m absolutely passionate about helping those less fortunate than ourselves. It’s a huge ‘why’ for me, and something that I’m already working on (with a few other WV folks you might now!) in the form of ‘Love Kids Orphanage Foundation,’ which just became a registered company here in the UK (and soon to be a charity).

Anyway, our long term goals are to take ‘Love Kids’ beyond our current orphanage project in rural Ghana, and help orphaned & needy kids around the world……and thinking about my legacy sure does give me some clarity on this. Thanks buddy!

I know helping others is dear to your heart also (you brought a tear to my eye, when on stage at the SU/WV merger announcement event last year, you talked about taking teams into third world countries to work on projects), so maybe our paths will cross on this at some point down the line. In fact, we’ll be looking for people to come to Ghana to help us build the Orphanage…..what d’ya reckon, up for it?

Alright my friend, thanks for your ongoing inspiration, you truly are a beacon of light!

    Keep Shining!

    Matt,

Thank you for posting. I was a teen when Dr. King was alive and he was truly an inspiring individual and one of my heroes. His spirit lives on and we can all honor him by aspiring to be the best that we can be and embracing in our daily lives his message of peace, equality and brotherhood.

His spirit lives on through us when we choose to be compassionate people. Change begins with us.
