Motivational Monday #23

BIRTHRIGHT by Sean Mullens

I came across this week’s Motivational Monday video while I was browsing Vimeo over the weekend…

The cinematography and directing was done by Sean Mullens, who created the short film about his friend Micheal’s daily ritual to find his natural self through surfing. This video inspires me and brings me to tears no matter how many times I watch it…

What I love the most about Sean’s video is how wonderfully it captures Michael’s drive, determination, and love for life.

Micheal views the water as an inalienable birthright. He refuses to allow an accident that happened 30 years ago overcome his ability to enjoy life everyday.

Michael is proof that we were all born with God-given abilities to succeed, motivate and inspire every day – no matter what happens during our lifetime.

The difference between people who live a life of success, motivation, and inspiration daily is choice. Michael consciously chooses to live his life to the fullest every day.

Michael’s story inspires me to live every day to the fullest and take advantage of my birthrights everyday. How did his story inspire you? I’d love to hear your answer below in the comments section.

It makes me think again and again about the words of Earl Nightingale that “we have everything we need in us to be happy and to succeed”. just need to realise it and live it!!!

  • Steve

Incredible Matt. Michael didn't let his accident stop him from living. I'm going to do my best to quit complaining about how bad i think i have it sometimes. I am BLESSED! Thanks for sharing.

  • ranchelle alexander

    Matt,

this is truly inspirational! How much can we learn from Michael!

Let´s surf through the waters of life, without worry, cheering the present moment and giving thanks for all it provides!

Keep up working the mission, Matt!

This is a great example of focusing on the important things in life as too often we get side-tracked and lose sight of how blessed we truly are. A great reminder. Thanks for sharing.

  • chrisybe

Ouao! He surely lives his life to the fullest! We all should! Thank you Matt!

I was blown away! I never cry but felt tear welling up in my eyes and felt ashame that a person could accomplish so much when most of us live in self-pity. We concern ourselves with the mundane things of life never realizing who we are or our role in this life. This story inspired me to stop bitching and complaining that I am unemployed right now and every debtor is contacting me everyday. I am inspired to live life everyday to the fullest, to be bold with courage and go forth.

Fantastic, it shows again that life is not what happen to you, but what you make out of life.
This story tells me that is up to me, that I can make what I want to make out of my life.

Vincent Kong, Sometimes, we don’t know how blessed we are until misfortune befells us and
we are jolted to our senses. Just like this amazing video of Michael ,we should celebrate with
him for his courage and love of life. It’s so inspiring that we should be grateful for evry
moment of our life to live life to the fullest. Thanks

  • September Pierce

With a determined determination to live…there are no excuses for NOT succeeding in life.

  • grantonk

I like that because it is so TRUE. Its hard to believe you can choose your attitude until you see someone in a tougher situation do it. I'm challenged. Thanks Matt

Show that he can achieve anything, whatever it takes as long he has the passion for it! Persistent & Focus comes into the picture.

  • mrfoad

I am SO ashamed of myself! I sit and wallow in self pitty on how I can't do this, I can't do that or I am not good enough, the world didn't give me any breaks. Then to watch this! My attitude has changed big time! I AM going to take control of my life! WOW, what an eye opening video.

  • Paulette

Excellent. only no trials breings a failure. Thank God he made the best with what he had to use he inspired me.

  • Ian King

This video clip, similar to Nick Vujicic's “Life without Limbs” makes you realise how we should thank God every day for our wonderful life when we have all our bodily parts normal, and a healthy brain. We should never complain about our circumstances. If people like Nick, and Michael are able to do so much, yet they consider it natural, despite their problems – then we who are healthy should be able to do so much more, or at least not complain about the mear 'minor' problems we have in our lives. Thank you Matt for sharing yet another beautiful example of what pure determination is able to achieve.

    Hey Matt,

Concrats on Angelina, your wife and children are truely blessed to have you as the Husband,Father, and Man…… that God has called you to be. Thank you for seeing life through your eyes…… Clearly, and helping me to see it to. All the ways you have helped Dawn and I, to be better for each other, and our 8 children are a gift from God. You have helped change several generations for the positive. The old me liked Wallstreet Gordon Gekko ” greed is Good ” when all along it was ” change is good “.

Blessings, Keep doing what your doing……. Andy & Dawn.

Yes this really is a lesson for all of us who might be taking life for granted as if we own it, the warning horn is sounded we need to take heed and apreciate what we have and make sure we utilise each day of our lives. Thanks Matt for all these motivations.

This video showed me that the problems I face in my life, are nothing compared to someone like Micheal. Everyone should take a look at themselves in the mirror every morning and realize that they have it much easier than some people do. If he can overcome not having the use of his legs, than what can I overcome today. Keep trying people, you will succeed, if you put in the effort.
