This week’s Motivational Monday video features the incredible story of Brenden Foster. Brenden was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the tender age of 8 years old.
The boy who once rushed through homework so he could play outside found himself confined to a bed. But there was no confining his spirit.
“I had a great time. And until my time comes, I’m going to keep having a great time,” he said.
Brenden’s selfless dying wish was to help the homeless. Brenden was too ill to feed them on his own. So volunteers from Emerald City Lights Bike Ride passed out some 200 sandwiches to the homeless in Seattle.
Then Brenden’s last wish took on a life of its own.
A TV station in Los Angeles held a food drive. School kids in Ohio collected cans. People in Pensacola, Florida gathered goods.
And here in Western Washington, KOMO viewers from all over took part in the Stuff the Truck food drive in Brenden’s honor. Hundreds with generous hearts donated six and a half huge truck loads of groceries and more than $60,000 in cash to benefit Northwest Harvest and Food Lifeline.
Brenden touched hearts all over the world. His wish came true, and he lived to see it.
When asked what made him sad, Brenden said, “When someone gives up.”
Brenden Foster never gave up. Even as he clung to his last hours of life, Brenden kept giving.
Brenden’s endless desire to give and his ability to live each day to the fullest are incredibly motivating to me. How has Brenden’s story motivated you?

Motivational Monday #47
I came across this video featuring scenes from one of my favorite movies, Coach Carter, over the weekend & I immediately knew that I had to share it in today’s Motivational Monday post. This video will challenge you to get to the root of your deepest fear so that you can overcome it to become what you are meant to be – which is powerful beyond measure.
This week, I challenge you to live a completely fearless life. If for any reason you start feeling fearful, remember the words from this short poem by Marianne Williamson:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear
is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our
darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to
be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your
playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing
enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel
insecure around you.We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to
make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just
in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light
shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to
do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our
presence automatically liberates others.”
How would your life change if you allowed yourself to let go of fear entirely? Share your answer in the comments section below.
