This is a cool little video that reminds us the ultimate power our minds have.
Now, I don’t know if I personally could NOT be annoyed by a pesky house fly, especially those crazy flies that dive bomb you while you’re trying to sleep, but I do know that this video illustrates the power of perception.
Your mind can take you anywhere, anytime and while we may not always have control over the circumstances in our lives, we absolutely have 100% of control over the meaning we attach to them and the perception we take about those circumstances.
Sometimes problems and challenges are real, sometimes they are just made up in our heads, but one thing is always true.
It’s our perception of those problems or challenges in our lives that determine if they become something that stops us from achieving our goals and dreams or something that propels towards our goals and dreams.
In this video we see a ninja almost get taken out by a simple and common house fly. And the more he tried to rid it from his life with force, the more it took over his life, his thoughts, his actions, and his focus until it consumed him to the point of exhaustion.
We’ve all heard the saying what you focus on expands, and you can clearly see that here. The fly represents what the ninja doesn’t want so he tries to kill it. But the more attention and energy he gives it, the more it persists and expands.
Until he changes his focus back to his mediation and finding peace by finding a way to incorporate the fly (problem) into his mediation. The fly isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it strengthened his focus and dedication to his meditation practice.
How many times have you focused on a problem you have that is standing in your way of achieving your dreams for so long, it literally takes you to the point of exhaustion?
We’ve all done it because it’s easy to do without the proper perspective. Life happens to all of us but we get to decide if the circumstances of our lives take us out or create opportunity to make us stronger.
You cannot always control what happens in life, but you can always control how you let it impact your life and it’s all done with the simple power of perception that each of us has the ability to control.
Next time a metaphorical “house fly” shows up in your life, think about this edition of Motivational Monday and focus on changing how you look at it and watch how the problem or challenge morphs into something that can actually serve you…
It’s an awesome way to live 🙂
