So I know it’s new years and everyone is all fired up about their goals and dreams and making 2014 a great year so I debated on this story or another super charged high intensity video. But I choose this story for Motivational Monday because it’s just so cute PLUS packs a powerful (and somewhat hidden) message.
So here it is…
Dream Big Dreams!
This amazing man Bill Mohr just celebrated his 105th birthday, laid a big ole kiss on his wife to celebrate their 70th anniversary, and is generally a happy soul.
But in his amazing 105 years of life (it still hits me like a sack of rocks, 105!!! That’s a lot of years to make life an adventure), he only had one regret.
That’s a sign of pure wisdom and a life that most people will only aspire to model, living 105 years and having only regret in your life?
That just adds to the stack of amazing things about this story and this man. And maybe his dream doesn’t seem all that big to most people reading this today, but to him it was!
And that’s just one more lesson in this story, your dreams are yours! The ONLY thing that matters is that when you dream big dreams, those dreams are big enough for YOU. Big enough to light a fire in your soul that can never be extinguished. And it makes no difference what they are. You and I don’t have to share the same dreams and if we have different dreams, neither is more right or more wrong. My dreams are for me, your dreams are for you, and Bills’ dream was for him.
See, Bill had a dream to get his high school diploma from Saint Josephs Prep School but when he was 15, he had to leave the prep school because his Dad’s job moved so he had to go with them and help his parents out.
That and the war that eventually made him a World War II vet kept him from graduating and getting his diploma from Saint Josephs Prep School. But, on what would have been his classes 85th reunion, the President of Saint Josephs Prep School issued Bill a diploma!
So even after 90 years of his dream being all but dead, it still came true for him!
It’s just a cute, happy, fun little story with some truly amazing components and lessons and as we all embark on a new year of creation in our lives I thought we might take away a couple things.
1. Your dreams never die unless you let them
2. You never know where any path will lead you so dream big dreams and have no regrets
3. Above all, no matter what circumstances show up or how you choose to deal with them, find a way to keep smiling and enjoy the adventure!
Because we should all be so lucky to see our 105th birthday, celebrate 70 years of happy marriage, and see a 90 year old dream that is all but dead resurrected and come true and if that happen in my life, you can bet I’m going to do it with a smile!
Dream big dreams in 2014 and let’s make them all come true!
