How To Be A Great Problem Solver
Solving problems = success.
That’s why this quote: “Success is not delivering a feature, success is solving a problem…” is the inspiration for today’s Unemployed Millionaire show.
And I think that most people in business could stand to learn to be a problem solver more than a sales person.
I made this mistake for years. I wasn’t focused on how to be a problem solver, at least not a true problem solver.
I was focused, like many people, on ramming a solution down peoples throats! And I can tell you, that just doesn’t work nearly as good as when you learn to be a problem solver.
People are all different and there are several different personality styles.
But learning how to be a problem solver follows some pretty basic rules and guidelines.
First you have to know that all problems have 2 components: Goals/Objectives and Barriers to achieving those goals or objectives.
This might be money related, health related, relationship related, or something entirely different. Many people have the goal of making more money but the barrier will be different for each person as it relates to their life.
For one person the barrier might be not knowing how, for another it might be not believing they can do it, for another it might be lack of motivation or drive.
To be a problem solver you have to figure out what the barrier is and offer solutions that fit with that barrier that help them.
There are stages you can clearly identify when you’ve been doing this for awhile.
To be a great problem solver that operates at high levels, you need to get good at these things:
1. You have to identify the problem
2. You need to give the problem structure so you can work with it
3. Once you have some structure around the problem, you need to start bringing solutions to the table
4. You have to weed through the possible solutions and get down to making a design on which one to implement
5. You have to implement that solution (and this is where you can help them the most)
6. Track your progress towards your solution and make adjustments if/when needed
If you follow these steps when prospecting for your business, you’ll become everyone’s hero! You’ll also be a great problem solver that can easily put Professional in front of your title! And, you’ll be helping people create real and positive change in their lives and nothing is more rewarding or fulfilling than that.
So let’s go out and be problem solvers!
