Being a Great Leader
A rainy day is a great metaphor for being a great leader.
For my first years in the real world, I lacked leadership skills. I was a businessman, an entrepreneur, I was independent, and I was always working towards my goals. I spent so long tackling hard times and never being able to move past them. It wasn’t until my time in the Marine Corps that I learned what made the difference between a good leader and a truly great leader.
At bootcamp, their first goal is to tear you apart. Drill Instructors will break you down to the foundation of your humanity.
They put you through intense physical training, stressing your body to the limit.
Everyday they will harass you, creating an environment that is dangerous and unforgiving.
They question and demean every single action you take, even if it’s the right choice.
They are trained to exaggerate every stressful element in life.
After all of the struggle and hardship, it all leads to their main goal – To mold you into a great leader. After you’ve learned how to stand tall in the face of ANY adversity, they will to teach you how to move forward, no matter the obstacle.
I applied these lessons, and share them with you in this weeks blog.
