We all know the dream…
Work hard for 2-5 years and create a full-time “retirement” level income.
I had the opportunity to sit down with an Amway Diamond almost 20 years ago. He had worked really hard for about 10 years and then he went into semi-retirement mode. He told me he hadn’t personally sponsored anyone in 10 years and he still earned a couple hundred thousand a year in residual income.
I remember thinking… Man if he had just kept going, he could be at over $1 million a year!
But everyone has different goals…
He was happy with a couple hundred k a year. Me? When I got to $200,000 a year, I was crazy motivated to double that. When I got to $400,000, I was crazy motivated to double it again, and again and again…
I’ve been at this for 25 years and I’m still not “retired”. Yes, I surpassed the “retirement level income” many many years ago but I’m still very active… attending events, speaking, pouring fuel on the fire of existing teams, sponsoring new representatives, etc.
One of the reasons I’m still very active – and this is a big lesson – is because I fell in love with the game.
To me, sleeping late and doing nothing but hobbies while my kids are at school would drive me crazy. I tried semi-retiring and it just didn’t work for me. The way I’m wired, I need to be in the game producing. (Yes, maybe I need to get some counseling) 🙂
After 25 years of watching plenty of others “retire”, I’ve discovered a retirement law…
You must continue to personally sponsor new people until you’re at the income level you want to retire at.
In fact, you need to be a good % above the level you want to retire at. Because as soon as you stop personal production, your team tends to slow down as well.
Now, if you’ve done what I have and worked hard enough and long enough to produce six-figure and seven figure earners in your downline and those teams are growing strong with or without you, that’s not as much the case. But even though it’s not “as much” the case… it’s still the case.
New blood is the life-blood of any network marketing organization. When the leader slows down, the team slows down.
