You a Bush or a Tree?
There was a hell of a storm a couple nights ago here in Dallas.
Devon and I woke up to our patio furniture spread out all over the back yard. We were pretty happy about it because we’ve been wanting to pull up some bushes in the front yard and with all the rain, the soil is so mushy it’ll make it easy to tie a chain to the bush and pull them out with the truck.
It got me thinking about how much I was like a bush in my early years in network marketing.
There were a couple different times, because I was struggling, someone from another network marketing company would come along and tell me how much easier it was with their company, how much more money you can make, etc.
So, like a little bush with mushy soil, I’d be yanked out easily.
Only to realize that this other company was just as hard, it didn’t allow me to make any more money, and I was essentially in the same situation I was before I got yanked out.
You see, I got sold on the fact that the grass was greener somewhere else.
Only to realize that it was only greener because the person recruiting me had spray painted the grass.
In fact, in one of those cases, the grass with this other company was actually dead… I got caught up in the hype and a few months later this “greener grass” startup company was out of business while the company I left was still going strong.
I felt a bit like an idiot.
But it was a great lesson. This is cliche, but “the grass is greener where you water it.”
When I finally made the decision to be a professional. I made a commitment that I’d stop being like a tiny little bush and easy to yank out. Instead, I’d start acting like a palm tree.
You see, a palm tree can withstand massive storms… many will even withstand hurricanes. They may sway, but they stay grounded.
Truth:
No matter what company you’re with, there will be many many storms. There will be many many challenges. That never ends.
If you continue being a bush and you’re easy to yank out, you’ll never grow to be a giant tree.
Tip on how you can move from a bush to a tree
Just like everything else, you decide and commit.
When the storm comes, and it always does, commit to standing strong. Sway but don’t break.
Let your stance be an inspiration to others who have it in their hearts to be a tree as well.
