Todays question comes all the way from Viking Team Sweden! Joseph Johansson asks:
“How can I use my own blog to benefit my business if I can’t offer the expert help as you can?”
Great question! Here’s the thing, don’t feel like you have to be some kind of ultimate expert in order to give training that’s going to benefit other people. I felt the same way when I first started. I thought, “Who’s going to listen to me? I’m no expert and I don’t have a lot of success…”
But I asked myself the question, “How CAN I become an expert?”
And I’ll tell you what Jack Canfield told me years ago. If you want to become an expert, just read five books on one topic. If you read just five expert books on one topic you’ll be in the top 1% knowledge level above 99% of everyone else in the world! So I did just that. I read books like my life depended on it. I studied success principles, success mindset, and success actions. But I didn’t just read the books, I read them in a way that forces maximum learning and skyrockets you to expert status. Every time I read a book I have a journal with me. I take notes of the most important key points in the book and I immediately go out and teach or do a training on that knowledge I acquired from the book. And even further, I reference those journals whenever I need to be reminded of stuff I already know. When you think back to school, how did you learn?
You read material from books or listened to a lecture or training from someone you perceived as an expert and took notes!
How did your teachers teach?
Your teachers went through the material usually the night before the class and in your eyes, they were the expert. Why? Because they were the ones teaching you.
Now that you’re older do you think your 2nd grade math teacher is an expert in math?
Well, maybe math isn’t the right example here but you get the picture. Anyone who knows more about a subject than you do is, in fact, an expert compared to you. So you just need to continue to acquire knowledge. You’ll never know everything there is to know about any one topic in life, but you certainly CAN know more than 99% of others.
Your teachers didn’t and don’t know everything, but they knew enough to teach you something right? Just like in Karate. You don’t have to be an expert black belt in order to teach a brand new white belt do you? No! A yellow belt can teach a white belt and they are just one level above a white belt. And you just continue to progress as you acquire more knowledge and expand your expert status. So Joseph, the answer to your question is continue to acquire knowledge because if you have it, and they don’t, and it can help them, you BECOME the expert! Now I want to hear from you!
