Marine Corps Story: How Personal Transformation Works

Writing this from the plane headed out to San Diego to speak at an event tonight.

As I was boarding the plane from Dallas, about 30 MARINES were boarding with me. If you don’t already know, I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps. (You can call me Sergeant Morris) 🙂

I’m not sure why they’re flying out, but the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot is in San Diego and Camp Pendleton is nearby. I gotta admit, I got filled up with a sense of pride seeing these boys in great shape, chests out, and clean cut with their high and tight’s. (that’s a haircut where it’s about finger length on top at most and shaved on the sides.)

If you don’t know, Marine Corps boot camp is hell. Not as bad as Ranger school or Navy Seals training, but it’s a beat down for sure. I couldn’t help feeling proud of these guys for making it through.

There was this one kid boarding with us who was a new recruit headed out to Boot Camp talking to one of the MARINES. Skinny, timid, soft spoken, long curly messy hair. You could just tell he was filled up with nervousness in anticipation of what he was about to get himself into.

I couldn’t help but chuckle. Having gone through the process myself, I can tell you with total certainty that this kid is about to have his ass handed to him.

In just a few hours when he boards the bus headed to the recruit depot, his world will be turned upside down.

By this evening his messy long hair will be shaved bald.
He’ll have been stripped down naked in a room with a hundred or two others and given his new clothes.
He won’t sleep for the next 36 hours or so.
And he’ll be introduced to 3 or 4 of the toughest mother f’ers you’ll ever meet… his drill instructors whose job will be to make his life a living hell for the next 11 weeks.

Even though I know he’s about to go through hell, I’m excited for him.

I’m excited for him because when he comes out the other side, you’ll barely be able to recognize him.

He’ll have gone from this puny looking mousey kid, to a strong, disciplined, confident man who walks with pride and speaks with a sense of bearing.

He’s about to undergo a complete transformation if he makes it through.

It got me thinking about Network Marketing.

How Network Marketing Completely Transformed My Life

When I got involved in this profession, I thought since I had been through boot camp, I could do anything in the world.

Boy was I wrong.

I got my ass handed to me in network marketing the same way I did in boot camp. I got laughed at, rejected over and over, spent way more than I made for years, and felt like quitting 1,000 times.

But because I was too stubborn to quit, I eventually made it through the other side.

Full time.
Then six-figures.
Then seven.

The reward of living this lifestyle is worth it 1,000 times over. It completely transformed my life.

How Personal Transformation Works in Network Marketing

Today, just like when I look at this kid and I’m excited for the challenge he’s about to go through, I’m excited for new network marketers for the challenge they’re about to go through.

I’m excited because that’s how transformation works. You have to be pushed, challenged, and in many cases, go through pain to experience transformation. But when you make it through the other side, you’ve transformed your life in a huge positive way.

But unlike this kid going through boot camp (no escaping the misery for him), in Network Marketing, there is a way to escape some of the pain.

You can’t escape rejection, people quitting on you and the basics of the game, but you certainly don’t have to go through 5 years of struggle like I did. There is a path to make it easier and that path is knowledge combined with the right actions.

It’s similar to walking through a minefield. If you go it alone and chart your own path, you’re surely to be blown up.

However, if you follow someone who’s spent 24 years going through the mine path, knows every possible way though it, and where every mine is placed so you can avoid them, what happens?

You get through with a lot less pain and misery. And MUCH faster!
