For most of my childhood I grew up poor. Raised by a single mom (total badass) who worked her way through college and law school.
Dad went to prison for a while for murder and was a severe alcoholic. There was a period of my childhood where I didn’t even know where he lived as he evaded child support payments. When I was 13, he committed suicide.
Mom and I lived in a trailer park, upgraded to a one-bedroom garage apartment, then to a 2 bedroom house in a not so savory part of town. Eventually, just before high school, mom graduated law school and got a job so we were able to move into a nice middle-class neighborhood.
Some people might use growing up in poverty or having an absentee father as an excuse.
Me?
It motivated the hell out of me to get rich.
Enter my entry into Network Marketing and entrepreneurship.
Three years in and I was $30,000 in debt and nowhere close to being able to support myself through my business.
I had 24 different jobs before I went full-time and at one point I lived out of little, red, beat up Honda Civic bathing in nasty gas station bathrooms.
Pay attention to this part of the story:
I kept telling myself, “I’m motivated. I’m a hard-worker. I may not be a genius but I’m not the dumbest guy in network marketing. Why can’t I make this work?”
I’d see other people who joined after me pass me up and think, “what’s wrong with me?”
I remember driving to Dallas one day from Austin for my weekend drill with the MARINES. I had $10 on me and a negative balance in my checking account. I pulled into the gas station to top off my Honda with my last $10. As I walked in to pay (back when you had to walk in) there was this big, ham sandwich overflowing with meat. I was hungry and craving that sandwich… but I didn’t have the $2.50. So I just paid for my gas and walked back to my car. Hungry.
I remember thinking, “Why am I always so broke!?”
I remember when I invested what little money I had in an ad campaign that didn’t work and I lost my money. I thought, “Why am I such an idiot?”
Well, I’ll tell you why I was such an idiot…
Because I had zero understanding of the subconscious mind and how it works.
What I didn’t realize at the time is that when you ask yourself a question, your subconscious mind goes to work in the background to discover the answer.
When I asked “Why am I such an idiot?”, my subconscious worked overtime to find the answer. Which it did.
Ask a disempowering question – get a disempowering answer.
Ask an empowering question – get an empowering answer.
When you know how the subconscious is programmed, you’ll understand how this concept can radically alter your destiny.
Once I understood the science of the mind, my life began to change. And change fast.
- I went from being an awkward communicator to feeling confident in almost any situation.
- I went from being afraid of public speaking, to rocking stages all over the world.
- I went from struggling financially, to becoming a multi multi millionaire…
- I went from feeling like an idiot, to incredible levels of confidence by stepping into my genius. The same genius that lies within you. (And you probably even know how to spell millyunare properly) 🙂
