Sitting here in my home office with my writing partner, Bella, directly under my legs. Bella is my ever-so-faithful-and-loving Golden Doodle. Damn I love this dog.
I’m sucking down a second cup of coffee. Not because I’m tired… but because this new coffee is so watered down. Even though I don’t really like it, I was planning on drinking it all so I’m not just wasting the money I paid for this expensive coffee!
It’s interesting. Even after earning millions of dollars, I find myself drinking bad coffee I don’t like just to save a few dollars.
I supposed it’s not bad being conservative with money. After all, it’s not how much you earn, it’s how much you keep.
But that got me to thinking…
Where else do I hold on to things that don’t serve me well?
In both leadership and in relationships, my ego has made the mistake far too many times of holding on to being right.
Just yesterday, I saw several replies to my email mentioning being divorced with people judging me for a failed marriage. It was easy to point the finger at them for judging me… but then I realized I’m judging them for judging me.
For years, I held on to fears, self-doubts, and resentments that didn’t serve me at all.
And while I’ve certainly made massive shifts, I still have many more to make… and I’m sure I always will.
Consider this…
One of the most dangerous places to be in your life is believing that you’ve arrived.
“If you’re green, you’re growing. If you’re ripe, you’re rotten.”
So, my friend, what are you holding on to that doesn’t serve you anymore?
- Are you clenching on to your pennies at the expense of personal growth?
- Are you holding on to being right at the expense of a beautiful relationship?
- Are you withholding forgiveness and continuing to swallow that poison expecting the other person to get sick?
- Are you holding on to resentment rather than allowing yourself to be set free emotionally?
- Are you continuing to swallow anger on a daily basis because of situations you can’t control?
Thank you for being on this journey with me. Thank you for your loyal readership. And thank you for trusting me with your time. I hope it serves you well.
Lots of love,
