Often times our belief systems about ourselves and other people are what cripple our ability to achieve financial freedom.
Lesson For Success: Don’t Let Your Belief System Sabotage You
Let’s talk about our belief system..
Whatever belief that you hold tightly is going to manifest itself.
One of the most important things we must master and adopt is a healthy set of beliefs systems.
That may seem like a difficult task, but I’ve got some good new for you.
We have the power to choose our belief systems.
Most people are reactionary to their belief systems and have been adopted unconsciously from external sources (friends, family, etc.).
Often these unconscious belief systems are dis-empowering. :
I Struggled For Many Years
It took five years to get paid full time in network marketing.
There was a lot of struggle…
When looking back and analyzing why it took so long to make an impact in network marketing…
It came down to belief systems.
I Believed That People Were Too Skeptical Of Network Marketing to Join My Team
My sponsor in Amway (when I first got started) was presenting one night.
Having never heard of Amway, there wasn’t an ounce of skepticism.
She took me into the room and began to explain that when recruiting to “not mention Amway right off the bat because then people get skeptical.”
Because of that experience, I had it in my mind that people were skeptical.
Guess how much success came with holding on to that belief?
Very little.
In fact I enrolled three people in two years. Two of which I paid for to get in and one was my mom who didn’t even know she was in it!
When I joined another company, I held on to that negative belief.
Guess what type of people always showed up…
The type of people who are most skeptical about network marketing.
If you were to adopt the belief that “everyone is skeptical” – what are the chances of achieving success?
Not very high.
Many people say the same things,
“The people in Singapore are skeptical.”.
“People in Africa are skeptical.”.
“Europeans are skeptical.”.
It’s all BS.
As long as you hold onto that belief, success is very unlikely.
Whatever dis-empowering belief you hold onto becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I chose to stop that belief system and adopt a different belief:
- People understand how powerful network marketing is.
- Some people are skeptical but it’s only because they haven’t worked with me yet.
- Many people are open-minded.
Whatever belief systems you carry will spill over onto your prospects
The “I Can’t Find Anyone Motivated Enough To Become Successful” Belief
There are people who are unmotivated, of course.
But if your belief is that most people are unmotivated, guess what…
You’re going to attract and always going to find unmotivated people.
My belief is that people are naturally motivated.
People want to:
- Achieve financial freedom…
- Travel the world…
- Have the fulfillment of knowing they made an impact in the lives of others…
Because that’s my belief; guess what I find…
THOSE TYPES OF PEOPLE!
Realize – you may be carrying around negative beliefs that other people see and feel which is why they get repelled.
Negative Belief About Ourselves
When I was first starting out, one of the negative beliefs I had about myself was, “I’m not a very powerful leader”.
I thought that because I hadn’t been successful in network marketing for two years that I wasn’t somebody people would follow.
Then I realized, if I don’t believe I’m a powerful leader… that’s going to spill over onto the person I’m trying to recruit.
Once I came to that epiphany, I began to adopt a set of different, empowering beliefs:
- Failure means I’m an amazing leader because I’ve been through hell and can lead other through it.
- I understand struggle and can relate to others.
That makes me a better leader.
I was able to step into this powerful. As a result, I became a powerful leader.
In My 20’s I Had The Belief System That Money Is Not Important to Me
I didn’t want to feel greedy or money hungry.
I would say I was ambitious and wanted to make a lot of money but I would never say money was of much importance.
Until I went to a lunch with an older gentleman in Dallas.
This guy had to be in his mid 60’s and was flat broke!
I mean completely broke. Couldn’t pay his bills or afford anything other than the necessities.
He said, “you know the thing about me is I really don’t care about money much. I’ve had money and I’ve lost money. I want to live a good life but I really don’t care much about money.”
After hearing that… my perspective changed.
That was a big warning sign.
From that point forward, I refused to say I didn’t care about money.
I started believing money was important to me. With money I can have greater impact.
We Will Remain Consistent With What We Believe
If you believe money is the root of all evil, you’re never going to have much for any period of time.
If you believe you’re a bad leader, you’re never going to rise to success. You’ll figure a way to sabotage yourself and get yourself back to that negative belief.
Homework
Start analyzing what your beliefs are as it relates to:
- Other people.
- Network marketing.
- Being an entrepreneur
- Yourself
- Money
What do you really believe? How is that belief holding you back?
Once you have awareness of it, you begin to understand how it could potentially hold you back.
Adopt empowering beliefs and change your language.
