My ex-grandmother-in-law passed away today. (My children’s great-grandmother)
She was an amazingly kind woman who had eight children. Thankfully, most of her close family got to see her before she passed on.
I’m sad to see her go but happy because I’m sure she’s earned a place in heaven and is now without any pain or suffering.
Between her passing and Kobe’s passing last week, it’s got me thinking a lot about my own death.
Ten years ago, I think facing my own death would have scared the hell out of me…
Not because I hadn’t accomplished a lot. By the age of 33, to have become a self-made millionaire is certainly something to be proud of…
I had traveled a decent amount (mostly for business)…
Impacted a good number of lives…
And felt good about the man I had become thus far.
But here’s why it would have scared the hell out of me…
If I were to sincerely answer this question, the answer would have been “NO”.
That question:
“Have you really and truly LIVED?”
You see, ten years ago I may have earned a lot of money. But my life was so wrapped up in wanting to succeed, I let my drive overtake living a rich, full life.
I would do around the world tours to speak in multiple continents and literally take zero days off to enjoy the amazing countries I was visiting.
Sad.
I’ll be real open… I still have a lot of work to do when it comes to “living” versus “creating/working”, but if I look back over the past 10 years I can honestly say…
DAMN I’VE LIVED!
Not only have I multiplied my success many times over, what really matters is that I’ve created SO MANY peak life experiences.
From climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, to Bora Bora and Maldives, jungle tours, scuba diving the blue hole, tours across Europe and too many things to mention.
I’ve checked off about 100 items off my bucket list in just the past decade and can’t even begin to describe the incredible adventures I’ve had.
All I can say is it’s been one hell of a ride!
I can honestly say that if God took me tonight, I’ll die a happy man because I can genuinely say that I truly LIVED.
Will People Say that You Truly Lived at Your Eulogy?
So, my friend…
If God takes you tonight, at your Eulogy, will they say that YOU truly lived?
Listen, there’s nothing wrong with being driven to succeed.
There’s nothing wrong with hard work.
I’m so amazingly grateful that I worked hard. If it weren’t for the financial freedom earned from working so hard, I couldn’t have enjoyed so many peak life experiences.
But here’s my warning…
Don’t sacrifice living for producing the way I did the first half of my entrepreneurial career.
What I discovered is that you can work hard AND play hard. In fact, what I found is that when you live in abundance and commit to making life an adventure, you earn MORE money.
How to Create Your Life Worth Living and Avoid Any Regrets When Your Time Comes
Here’s one simple action item that has made my life so much more rich and full. It’s what’s allowed me to check off over 100 bucket list items…
Create a few bucket list goals for this year and create an action plan for achieving them.
Write them down – on paper!
Commit to making them happen because I can promise you only one thing…
You’re not going to make it out of life alive.
You may have 40 years more or you may have 40 days. None of us really know but what’s for certain is that you’ll be dead soon enough.
And in your last days, you’ll regret far more the things you didn’t do than the things you did do!
So get busy living, my friend!
Lots of love,
