Years ago, I became the top earner in a nutritional network marketing company. My partner and I built a team of 22,000 people in two years.
Our flagship product was a noni juice product and there was quite a bit of scene behind it.
In fact, there was so much science behind it that many of the leaders got caught up selling the science. We were doing a presentation one night presenting the product and one of my super analytical associates did the presentation.
He went into great detail about the phyto-nutrients, vital nutrients, how the amino acid contained in the product won the Nobel prize for life enhancement and how it signaled a molecule in the cardiovascular system, etc, etc, etc.
At the end of the presentation, you thought one thing…
The leader presenting was damn smart!
The problem was, our closing rate sucked that night.
Why?
Top Reason Why Most Network Marketers Struggle in MLM
As the top earner in the company, I didn’t even understand what he was talking about and I found myself kind of like Charlie Brown in class when his teacher was talking and all he hears is WAAAH, WAAH, WAAH.
My sponsor in that company was even less knowledgeable about the product than I was but closed like an absolute rockstar.
Why?
He did one very important thing.
Which answers the question as to why network marketers struggle to close sales. (And salespeople in general)
He was selling the product, not the outcome of the product.
You see, what I learned from my sponsor was to simply tell stories about what the product has done for other people. I would spend just a few minutes on the science (so people understood that it’s real) but then I’d spend the next 20 minutes telling stories about what the product had done for other people.
You see, people don’t care about your product…
They care about what your product can do for them.
Sell the OUTCOME, not the product!
