When you hear “I have to think about it”, what you’re really hearing is…
“I want to procrastinate because I don’t have enough belief in (myself, you, your products, your opportunity)”
Here’s a BIG golden nugget that took me a long time to understand:
The objection given is almost never the REAL objection.
No one needs to “think about it” for the sake of thinking about it…
It’s more like they want to think about it for the sake of procrastinating… so they can see if their belief/motivation/etc changes enough for them to make a decision.
It’s OUR job as leaders to be a coach.
Let’s look at the word coach…
It comes from the horse drawn buggy days. The “coach” was the carriage designed to take people from where they are to where they want to be.
How to Overcome Objection: Identify the Real Reason
If you blindly accept the objection, you are not doing your job as a leader to take people to where they want to be.
Our job is to identify the real reason they have to “think about it”.
If you’d like to know EXACTLY what to say when you hear:
- “I’ve got to think about it”
- “I don’t have the money”
- “I have to talk to my spouse”
- I want to do my research”
- And several others…
