Yesterday I told you a story about the perils of dating your downline romantically.
Today I’m going to talk about “dating” your downline in a non-romantic way. This is one of the greatest retention and relationship strategies that, admittedly, I’m nowhere near as good at as I should be.
Think about this for a minute…
“Acts of Love”: Serve as a Great Relationship Retention Tool
When you’re dating or married, you do thoughtful things for your significant other to keep them happy and to make them feel respected and appreciated. These “acts of love” serve as a great relationship retention tool in keeping a relationship together.
We just had Valentine’s day yesterday and, if you’re doing what you’re supposed to, you did some “acts of love” for your partner.
Maybe you:
- Got them a card with a sweet note
- Bought them gifts
- Took them to dinner
- Got them a massage
- Took them for a weekend getaway
Those are the things I did for my girlfriend Devon this weekend because, well, I want to maintain a great relationship and make her feel loved and honored.
If you’re smart, and believe me I’m no relationship guru, you don’t only do these things on Valentine’s day or special occasions. You do them just out the blue to let the person know you really care.
How to Build a Relationship with your MLM Downline: The DO’s
So what if…
You took that same thoughtfulness and applied it to your downline?
What effect do you think it would have if you:
- Wrote personal cards to your downline when they achieved a new rank?
- Sent chocolates to every major leader in your group for Valentine’s Day?
- Sent flowers to every major female leader on Mother’s Day?
- Sent books to your leaders for no reason at all?
I can tell you firsthand, it makes them feel loved, honored and appreciated!
These are all things I’ve done for my leaders over my career and it’s had a MASSIVE impact. When I owned my own network marketing company, this was standard operating procedure. I had my assistant coordinate these things and many more.
The Positive Results of Developing a Good Relationship with Your Downline (In a Non-Romantic Way)
It’s one of the reasons why, despite having many major challenges, I never had one major leader leave my company in the 5 years I was in business.
Always remember this: people will do more for relationships than they will for the money. So make sure you’re building relationship capital with your team.
You do that essentially by “dating” your downline in a NON-Romantic way. 🙂
